Monasteries in Southeastern Bulgaria, Bourgas region
In the Southeastern Bulgaria, there are a few functional monasteries, most of which were built on foundations of former monasteries during the Liberation of Bulgarian from Ottoman yoke.

Nowadays functional monasteries are the Gorno Ezerovo monastery “St. Virgin Mary” and the Pomorie monastery “St. George the Victorious” in close proximity to Bourgas city.
Monasteries in Strandzha and Sakar
The Golyamo Bukovo monastery “S. Petka (St Life-Giving Spring)” is the only one preserved and functional monastery in the beautiful Standzha Mountain. The Ustrem Monastery “Holy Trinity” which is situated 13km away from the town of Topolovrad is the biggest and best maintained monastery in the area of Strandzha and Sakar mountains.
The Bakadzhik Monastery “St. Spas” and the Kabile Monastery “The Nativity of Mother of God” are located near the town of Yambol.
